4 Home Remedies to Cure Common Cold

The common cold is a common winter problem where little exposure to the cold weather can make you sick. Especially children and elders get infected with common cold easily. Well, it might not be a serious medical condition, but a coughing attack, running nose, and high fever can make your day very hard.

It is generally advised that you should let your body heal automatically because fever and coughing is a way of your body to remove toxins automatically. But, it doesn’t mean that you can’t soothe your aching muscles and sore throat with some quick home remedies. The advantage of using home remedies for the treatment of common cold is that it won’t have any negative impact on your body.

So, if you are suffering from a common cold, then you can use any of the following home remedies to heal your body quickly.

Treatment 1. Keep your body hydrated 

Okay, so the simple treatment of cold that you can perform at your home would be keeping your body hydrated. You should increase your fluid intake level as it will be helpful in reducing conjunctions and prevents your body from getting dehydration. During the cold, you might not feel like taking lots of fluids, but you should keep on drinking lukewarm water slowly after a few minutes.

Apart from regular water, you can drink fruit juices, herbal tea or other soothing drinks. Ginger and lemon tea with few droplets of honey is the perfect drink to soothe your aching throat and keep your body hydrated.

Treatment 2. Constantly blow your nose

If you are having a runny nose, then you should keep a box of tissues nearby and keep on blowing your nose. To heal quickly, you should not inhale back mucus in your head as blowing mucus out will quicken the healing process. Moreover, while blowing your nose, you need to be extra careful because blowing too hard will carry germ-carrying phlegm back to your ears that can cause a severe ear infection. So, the perfect way to blow your nose is to hold one nostril and gently blow and repeat with another nostril the same.

Treatment 3. Treat your sore throat 

Sore throat is very irritating as you can’t sleep or eat properly with it. So, you should next try to soothe your sore throat to get some well-deserved rest. To treat your throat, add a pinch of salt to lukewarm water and gargle for three or four times. This will provide temporary relief to your sore throat or reduce scratchiness in the throat. However, if you want to treat the sore throat of 6 years younger children, then they are unlikely to gargle properly.

So, kids, you should try to give them ice chips, sore throat sprays, lozenge or hard candy. But, make sure to not give hard candy to children younger than 3-4 years because there is a high chance that they can choke on candy. So, try different sore treating methods according to the age of a person.

Treatment 4. Heal stiff muscles 

It is common to feel ache or stiffness in the muscles due to the cold. So, treat muscle stiffness, you can use a hot water bottle, but if your muscles are aching a lot, then you should take light medicine. Such as for children 6 months or younger give the only acetaminophen and for children older than 6 months, give either acetaminophen or ibuprofen. However, if you aren’t sure, then you can ask the physician before giving any kind of cold medicines to your children.

For healthy adults following medicines are good – acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or aspirin.

So, folks, by using four easy treatments, you can easily treat your common cold at home. But, with all these treatments, don’t forget to rest well as it will make your healing process faster.
